Social Impact of Technology (ODE) (GNED 1064)

How does technology spark social change? What are the ethical considerations surrounding the technologies that we use? Who has access to these new innovations and technologies, and who does not? What are the social, political, and psychological implications of the technologies that we use? Students explore the multifaceted ways that technologies have shaped and continue to shape contemporary society. Students consider the unforeseen consequences of technologies, and assess the potential negative and positive consequences of emergent technologies. Technologies to be explored may include the printing press, environmental technologies, television, social media, and artificial intelligence.
