Oil & Chemical Tanker Familiarization (MARI 0146)

This course covers the design and development of different types of oil and chemical tankers, their operations and handling systems during loading, transit, discharge and washing, and the safe handling of their cargo. Topics include the chemical and physical properties of different cargo, electrostatics, basic gas principles, health and safety emergency procedures, and pollution prevention. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued a Transport Canada certificate for Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations and will be able to assume the duties and responsibilities related to the loading, discharging or transfer of cargo and the operation of cargo equipment. Prerequisites: CDN, STCW Basic Safety
