Ergonomics and Wellness (POLC 2008)

In this course students examine ergonomic, mental health and wellness including back health, eye fatigue, tunnel vision, critical incident stress, posttraumatic stress disorder and use of force issues. This includes examining the relationship between physical activity and stress management through methods of detection, and evaluation of the probability of injury and optimization of performance in the workplace. Special emphasis is placed on developing effective strategies to deal with ergonomic related injuries and issues. Participation in various fitness modalities and tests at a more advanced level help students prepare for the physical requirements of Bona Fide Occupational Requirements (BFORs) in policing, the Ontario Police Fitness Award (OPFA) testing standards and various strength assessments.
